May 01, 2023This luxury hotel now offers "shroom service" with your guest room.
Mushroom-infused coffees and other wellness-inspired goodies are now the norm at Glasgow's only ... [+] five-star hotel.
The ubiquitous cans of crackers and alcohol miniatures could become a thing of the past as Kimpton Blythswood Square, Glasgow's only five-star hotel, launches ‘Stay Well’ - a new customized wellness package that bids farewell to the traditional hotel minibar. Instead, you’ll find products containing mushrooms, in response to the latest trends in travel and well-being.
Yes, there is fungus among us.
The offering, which includes gut-health-advancing kombucha and iodine-filled seaweed capsules, is in response to guests increasingly prioritizing health and well-being. Research from McKinsey in 2022 found wellness was a key priority for 50% of the consumers, rising to an ‘important’ one for 81%.
The 24-hour wellness experience includes a ‘Shroom Service’ (available on request), which is believed to be the first of its kind. Guests will have the opportunity to start their day with Four Sigmatic's Think Organic Coffee and wind down with a de-stressing cup of Calm Organic Cacao Mix at bedtime, both expertly infused with a cultivated blend of functional mushrooms to help transform daily rituals into moments of well-being. A spokesperson for Four Sigmatic had this to say: "Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee starts with real, organic Arabic coffee sourced from a Honduran co-op, insuring we keep the rich and robust flavor of coffee. We then infuse this base with a potent dose of organic, extracted functional mushrooms. The result is a cup of coffee that not only retains its artisanal taste but also enriches mental focus, offers balanced energy, and aids in stress management. It truly wakes up your mind."
Functional mushrooms have skyrocketed in popularity in the wellness industry, a ‘shroom boom’ that has seen them hailed as the next CBD. Clinically proven to support healthy cognition, these non-toxic, non-psychoactive mighty mushrooms also deliver a multitude of other benefits such as mood enhancement, increased energy, and increased focus, among others.
Alongside the hotel's ‘Shroom Service’, the Wellness Minibar celebrates a host of small brands including vitamin-packed You + I kombucha, CBD tincture by Puresport and Weed & Wonderful iodine-filled seaweed capsules.
The offering arrives as the posh property ushers in an elevated era of wellness’in response to the growing appetite for self-care, ahead of the imminent relaunch of the hotel's award-winning spa.
The package offers equipment to help guests transport to the spa in the comfort of their hotel room with an ishga (seaweed) self-care bath experience kit, including invigorating body oil and Hebridean bath salts.
To tackle muscle tension and a cloudy mind, guided ishga yoga flows and Swell sound therapy can also be found in each room, alongside yoga mats, an exercise ball and foam rollers to help guests improve their wellbeing.
Finlay Anderson, Spa Director at Kimpton Blythswood Square and Area Spa Director for IHG (InterContinental Hotel Group) said: "It's time for an elevated era of wellness. People are prioritizing self-care more than ever before, particularly since the pandemic. Many guests want to return from a hotel feeling much better than when they arrived - and we want to offer a full-package wellness check-in that caters to those needs."
"The introduction of our Stay Well package is setting the tone for what's to come ahead of our relaunch of Spa at Blythswood Square. We’re encouraging guests to look after their bodies and minds and make the most of their time to themselves. The Stay Well package offers a step out of the buzz and burnout of everyday life, and a time to fully reset."
And no doubt, one needs this kind of self-care after a day spent in the flying, and facing the "travails" of travel.
Kimpton Blythswood Square was named one of the UK's top 30 hotels outside of London in Conde Nast Traveller's 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards.
The landmark destination is Glasgow's only hotel with five-star accreditation, and boasts beautiful Georgian architecture and benefits from its own private gardens right at the front door.
The Stay Well package and ‘Shroom Service’ are available to book right now at the Kimpton Blythswood Square hotel. Rooms start from $234 Bed & Breakfast including VAT, plus an additional $140 for the Stay Well package. The "best room in the house" is the Penthouse Suite, accessed through a private elevator, priced at $2677 per night. It's the room — with the shroom — at the top!
